Seagulls are fine neighbors--because it means you're somewhere near the sea. They tell you when a storm's on its way. They're not fair weather friends. They're there whether your want them there or not. We used to live right near the coast in North Hampton, and it was the strangest thing to see seagulls standing in the snow on the stone walls above the beach, wings tucked in tight, waiting for...who knows? Spring? A cup of coffee? I love their voices, their hardiness, their persistence. Good neighbors, seagulls.
