...that when I saw Liz's post on the library catalogue card generator at Feminist SF, the first book that came to mind is the Necronomicon. Here's my first pass with some cool scribblings. I actually wrote about the Widener Library (Harvard) catalogue card for the Necronomicon in my 2005 NaNoWriMo project, DOA (Death-magic Open Access), about a research necromancer trying to get a death-magic focused open access journal off the ground. Okay, before I dig this geek pit any deeper, I'll just keep my fingers off the keyboard and post the damn picture:
Wow, that's a good one!
It would come in very handy to make props for role-playing games too. In certain games one is always going to do "research" - imagine getting handed the results like this...

Thanks, Liz! I love it. Although I've never played an RPG that involved a library or finding books, I did participate in a fun one that involved a lot of cryptographic work, and spent hours outside of the game trying to decipher messages. Your idea reminds me of The Historian. Kostova does a nice job bringing out the mystery of libraries, secret books, special collections, and, of course, digging through the catalogue to find that someone has ripped out all the cards referring to vampires.
