Bigger bolder scenes


This one's for Skott Klebe, a good friend and colleague of mine—and an author. I painted this on Saturday, starting out in the morning with a sketch and watercolor (see below) and over the day—about eight hours, completing the whole thing.  After the Seaborn Lounge painting I did last weekend, I'm trying to develop whole scenes—a main character, several featured characters or places, and a well developed background.

Seaborn Lounge I had a dream...a really bizarre dream. This was a little over a week ago. I'd been writing with some music in the background, and one of the tracks in the playlist was The Sea by Morcheeba. So, cut to the middle of the night, and I'm dreaming of several characters from Seaborn--with Kassandra center stage doing this whole sultry lounge groove. Where Saltwater Witch starts... Saltwater Witch is a weekly web comic I've illustrated for a year and a half, and many panels and pages begin in either my journal or my drawing notebook, a bigger better version of my Moleskine journal.
